Tom Harris, 55, is an equipment operator who has worked at the University for 28 years.  "He's top of the line," said Kenny Cowart, Harris' supervisor.  Harris drives a dump truck from 6 a.m. until 2 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.  He gathers trash from various Dumpsters on campus and carries it to the Athens-Clarke County Landfill.  On average, Harris disposes of 20.4 tons or 40,800 pounds of garbage daily.  Harris said he plans to retire soon.
